[il-talk] My Story Wins NFB Prize

Hi Bill

Actually, the setting for the story goes back to a hotel Nancy and I stayed at some fifteen years ago on the island of Corfu.

Maybe I’m stuck in my own little world, but I honestly didn’t know there was an actual car dealer named Ray Green. That’s an unfortunate accident.

No, the story isn’t based on any real events. The story started out as a writing exercise – trying to see if I could write a story where the reader could figure out what was going on without me, the writer, giving a large amount of background material.

Hi Bob,

This is a very interesting story. Parts of it make me wonder how much is fictional. Are parts of the setting taken from your recent trip? Does the Ray Green in the story bear any resemblance to the Ray Green auto dealer besides name? Both could be the same age.

Cordially,
Bill

This year, my story, “The Doves of Kononi,” won 2nd place in the adult short fiction category. If you’re interested in reading the story, it’s attached.
