Updated At 5 21 PM.. Extension to Chrome browser enables hands-free voice
searches. MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 27 (UPI) --. U.S. search giant Google
says an extension to its Chrome computer browser will allow users to search
the Internet using voice commands. With the Google Voice Search Hotword
extension installed, users can begin a hands-free search by saying the words
OK Google when they are on the Google.com page, the Los Angeles Times
reported Wednesday. The computer must be equipped with either a built-in or
third-party microphone. Users can just say keywords to initiate a search or
can use a more conversational approach, such as asking How high is the
Washington Monument? Now you can talk to Google when you're using Chrome.
Hands-free. No typing, the feature's description from Google says. In its
default setting, the extension will stop listening for OK Google commands
after 5 minutes to help save battery life on laptop and notebook computers,
Google said. New to computers, the hands-free search feature was introduced
earlier this year on Android phones running version 4.4 KitKat of the
Android operating system from Google.
