Good afternoon everyone,

Microsoft has officially ended support, automated updates, and downloads for Windows XP as of Midnight tonight April 8th, 2014.

They have issued one last patch for Windows XP today. I highly recommend any one intending to continue to use XP going forward to make sure you vision “Windows Update” or if you installed update support for Office “Microsoft Update” to apply any patches you are missing.

Windows XP reached its end of “Mainstream Support” on April 14th, 2009. Today it has reached end of its "Extended Support”. The latest service pack for Windows XP is Service Pack 3.

Windows Vista reached its end of “Mainstream Support” on April 10th 2012. Those unfortunately soles that have chosen to use Windows Vista can choose to suffer with it until it reaches its end of “Extended Support” on April 11th, 2017. The last service pack for Windows Vista is Service Pack 2.

Windows 7 will reach its end of “Mainstream Support” on January 15th, 2015. You can continue to use it until January 14th, 2020 at which point it will reach end of its “Extended Support”. The current service pack for Windows 7 is Service Pack 1. It is vital that you have Service Pack 1 installed in order to get the latest patches. Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 7 without Service Pack 1 on April 9th, 2013. Service Pack 1 can be installed through “Windows Udpate” or at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-windows-7-service-pack-1.

Windows 8 will continue to be developed until January 9th, 2018. It will reach end of “Extended Support” on January 10th, 2023. Windows 8 seems to be moving away from the phrase ‘Service Pack". Although Windows 8.1 fixes some issues. Windows 8.1 Update 1

When a product reaches the end of its "Mainstream Support” Microsoft ceases development of features and functionality. When a product reaches the end of its “Extended Support” Microsoft no longer patches any security holes and any high-severoty bugs. End of “Extended Support” is the same as its “End of Life”.

P.S. Text the word BLIND to 85944 to donate $10 to the NFB Imagination Fund via your phone bill.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
