Hi Rose,

I hope this finds you well and enjoying the summer. I wanted to let you know that Congresswoman Bustos has signed on as a cosponsor to H.R. 831, and is happy to support it. Her name will likely show up on the lists when Congress is back in session.

Thanks for all of your communication and hard work on this issue.

Best,
Lyron

Hi Lyron,

I hope you have been well since our meeting last October.

I wanted to give you an update about HR 831: the Fair Wages for Workers with Disabilities Act. As you likely remember, this bill will responsibly phase out Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act, the provision that allows entities to pay people with disabilities subminimum wages. The National Federation of the Blind and over 75 other groups believe that this practice is antiquated, immoral, and discriminatory.

Since our meeting in October, we have made progress on this bill. We are up to 91 cosponsors, including six from Illinois. Do you have any questions about this bill? I would be happy to meet with you to go over the bill again so that you update Congresswoman Bustos on this important bill for people with disabilities.

If you would find it helpful to meet, I will be on the Hill on Tuesday afternoon. Please see a list of cosponsors from Illinois following this email.

Thank you,

Rose Sloan

Cosponsors of HR 831 from Illinois

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
