[il-talk] Brailler for a 16 year old beginner?

First I wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions on the Brailler/Notetaker. Since talking to this students teacher she advised me that the best choice for now is the Light-Touch Perkins Brailler. And then maybe at gradation consider a Notetaker. I ordered the Light-Touch and called American Printing to check on the order and they told me it was on backorder till January. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on one of these prior to December 20th?

Thank you,
Kathy Ungaro

>Thanks for the idea Deborah. I am not sure of Brianna's contact information. Also I wonder if she would be willing, or a representative from the group would be willing to do a road trip to Washington IL on December 20 11:30 - 1:30 when we have a Christmas party for Ashley and be able to speak to her directly there. I believe with Ashley's ambition and determination the group may be a great fit for her. She would also be a great ambassador at ISVI to direct other teens your way.

She is attending Illinois School for the Visually impaired and learning Braille. She is a very determined teen with plans to be totally successful in her personal life as well as in business. She started a fundraiser so that she can buy some adaptive technology. ICBV has decided to adopt her this Christmas and would like to provide her with a much needed Brailler. She had her heart set on the Smart Brailler and when we went to order it for her American Printing stated that this is meant for (Kindergartner) beginner Braillers. Has anyone used this Brailler? Is it useful for a 16 year old? Would anyone recommend it? If not what would you recommend? The standard Brailler? A Notetaker? Which one? We know that these are very pricey and want to do what's best for her. Any suggestions?

Hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving! Sincerely, Linda
