Linda,

If you are using Windows Media Player as I assume you are, you would use Control+p to begin play or to pause, provided you want to keep your place on the CD.  Control+f should bring you ahead one track.  Control+b should bring you back one track.  Control+s is the command for stop.  If you choose to use this command, you will be placed at the beginning of the CD you are listening to.  Hope this helps.
