I'm very pleased to announce a brand-new fundraiser for the NFB of Illinois. The NFBI is now listed as an approved charity that can receive contributions through Amazon Smile.  Amazon Smile is a program sponsored by Amazon.com that allows purchasers to donate .5 % of their purchase amount to a chosen organization.  As of today, the National Federation of the Blind of Illinois is listed as one of the organizations that can receive donations through Amazon Smile.

Granted, .5 % per dollar isn't much, but small amounts can add up quickly. Think of all the money you and your friends and relations spend at Amazon in the course of the year.  Now half of one percent of the money you spend can flow into our treasury. No products to sell, no raffle tickets to peddle. The NFBI simply collects money every time you buy a book or a birthday present or a new set of pots and pans.

Here's how it works: When you wish to make a purchase from Amazon, go to www.amazon.com/smile.  To register that you want your purchases to contribute to the NFBI, enter on the link that says Your Account.  Then go to Change Your Charity.  In the Edit box, type National Federation of the Blind of Illinois.  Then enter on a button that says Select.  You can also find us by arrowing down through the very long list of approved charities. Once you have made your selection, a popup appears to tell you that you have selected the National Federation of the Blind of Illinois.  Dismiss it and do your shopping!

Apart from the charitable contributions, Amazon Smile works exactly like Amazon.com.  You can use the credit card that is already listed with Amazon. Your password does not change.  You can use your Amazon gift certificates, and you can browse through all of the departments and offerings you have come to know on the standard site.  In fact, if you prefer to shop using the simplified site that is adapted for screen readers and mobile devices, you can make all of your selections there and save them in your shopping cart. Then go to Amazon Smile to complete your purchases.

Once you have selected the National Federation of the Blind of Illinois, you will not need to do so again.  Each time you make a purchase through Amazon Smile, you will see a message that you are making a gift to the National Federation of the Blind of Illinois.  Please sign up, and urge your friends and relatives to do the same!  Thanks in advance!
