Dear Friends,

I am sure some of you have heard about Bill already. I was hoping to have
more news before doing a big email but it turns out I still don't know much.

This is what I can say at this point.

Bill was hit by a car at the corner of Edgewood and Maryland after walking
with me to the 30 bus stop on the South east corner. He was recrossing
Edgewood going North at Maryland. A car hit him, and he flew up on to the
hood and then rolled off on to the street. The bus hadn't moved yet, I was
able to get off and be close to him. He sounded in great pain and I believe
he was calling out my name. It was determined very quickly that he had a
head injury and flight for life took him to Froedtert.

He went into surgery yesterday because of bleeding on the right side of his
brain and brain swelling. They removed part of his skull to take care of the
situation and are monitoring him closely. He also has fractured ribs.
Because of his agitation, all a part of brain injury, they are keeping him
sedated and on pain medication. Recovery will be very slow.

I wish I had more to tell you, I don't know much else. I can say he's
strong, and tough and his vital signs are good. Our son was taken by
helicopter from the site where he was doing wildland fire fighting down to
Boise. He flew out for home tonight. Bill's sister and brother-in-law are
coming in tomorrow. Friends have been very helpful with rides and support.

All your thoughts, prayers and positive energy mean a lot to us.

Please know that all your emails also mean a lot to us. Given the situation
I won't be able to get back with everybody but knowing you care really
matters. A friend suggested I read these emails to Bill to keep his spirit
strong, great idea.

I will try to figure out a way to get email updates out to everybody. It
won't be that often because I understand Bill's recovery will be very slow.

if I don't get back to you personally it doesn't mean your emails don't
matter, they matter a great deal. I just want to be by Bill's side as much
as possible, and there is Christopher, and my wonderful job, well so much.

With much gratitude,

Cheryl
