[il-talk] Fwd: 508 Revisions

I read the Notice of Proposed Rule Making in depth, and the revisions that
are proposed are substantial. If they are incorporated in the final rule,
the blind will have access to electronic information through federal
agencies like never before. For example, the proposed rule expands the
coverage to include stand alone equipment such as copy machines, ordering
keosks in federal cafeterias, telephones, the sign-in systems when someone
visits the local SSA office, and on and on. Moreover, it covers not just
websites but documents and materials, including those that aren't posted on
websites - e.g. for us federal employees, anything anyone sends us ever.

The Vice Chair of the Access Board is a Federationist, Sachen Pavitron,
Scholarship winner in 2008 or 2009, I believe. But it's critical that we
attend the Public Hearings and submit comments during the Public Comment
Period (which is open now for another 84 days).

The 508 revisions are probably the biggest thing in accessibility in at
least two decades, in my opinion!

Here's an article teasing us that 508 is getting a minor facelift. Might be
major stuff, who knows.
