> Pace to renovate Elgin TC this summer
>
> The Pace Board of Directors approved a contract at their March meeting with a construction company to perform mid-life renovations and improvements to the Elgin Transportation Center.
> The work is slated to begin in late spring and includes complete reconstruction of the indoor waiting area, which will feature energy-efficient elements and environmentally sustainable building materials.
> The renovation will take place in coordination with a streetscaping and beautification plan that's already underway in downtown Elgin. The transportation center is located along the banks of the Fox River, adjacent to the Elgin Station on Metra's Milwaukee District West Line, so facility upgrades- including repainting the facility's canopy- will contribute to the streetscaping effort.
> Other work includes repairs to the concrete structural deck and riverbank work, security improvements, ADA-compliant features, and utility upgrades. The project will be funded primarily by two Federal Transportation Administration grants.
> The transportation center was originally owned by the City of Elgin and was transferred to Pace in 1995 when Pace assumed responsibility for bus operations in the area.

>
> Pace reminds all of its riders to remain vigilant in helping to improve the safety and security of its system. If you see a suspicious person, package, or activity on the bus, please alert your bus operator immediately. Remember, safety and security is everyone's responsibility.
> What can you do to help?
> - Be observant, alert, watchful and aware.
> - If something doesn't look quite right, please immediately report it to the authorities.
> - Take initiative and become the community's eyes and ears.
> We can all count on a safe ride if we look out for each other. If you witness any type of suspicious activity, we are all counting on you to report it. Alert a bus operator, call Pace's TransitWatch emergency hotline at (847) 228-4200 or, if an emergency situation is immediate, dial 911.
> Pace is a participant in the TransitWatch program. Transit Watch was developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) in partnership with the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA), the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), and the federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
