Hi Zachary,

Good luck on your plan, sounds like a great one. I thought I'd mention, if
you haven't done so already, that you might want to reach out and speak
directly with Gaylen Kapperman (sp?), the director of the TVI program at
NIU. (At least, he was the last I knew about it.) Some other people on this
list know him much better than I do, but I explored the possibility of
enrolling in that program at one point (which ultimately I did not), and he
just couldn't have been more pleasant, helpful and informative to speak
with. Jut thought I'd throw that out there.

Cheers,
Andrew

Subject: [il-talk] Introducing myself.... More than likely seeing Northern
Illinois University in my very near future!

Good afternoon Nfb Illinois,
I am Zachary Dreicer, A current student at the University of Northern
Colorado in the school of special education. Some of you may remember me
from the national Federation of the blind of Illinois student seminar which
took place at the Chicago Marriott midway airport in mid April, 2015. It is
an overwhelming majority vote in my mind to pursue the transfer to NIU
(DeKalb) beginning spring 2016. Specifically, the reason that I would
transfer to Northern Illinois University is to pursue the undergraduate
degree teacher of the visually impaired, as I heard that that degree
program is nationally accredited, and my vocational goal is to be employed
as a teacher of the visually impaired, orientation and mobility specialist.
As of this point I am not sure where I would pursue my masters in o&m, but
perhaps completing the program in Dekalb will better assist me too
influence my decision. I will return with another email over the next few
days hopefully, but for now I will close out my message by asking A couple
Quick questions. who here has either attended, or is currently attending,
Northern Illinois University? What is the status of department of vocational
rehabilitation in Illinois, and how timely are they providing services? What
is their reputation among the blind community? also, who here is
geographically located between Dekalb and Chicago Midway international
airport? Just general region is fine. Looking forward to meeting new people,
making new friends, and hopefully a great education in NIU in my near
future!
