[il-talk] Resolution

It seems that the community group behind this city council action is
Disabled Americans Want Work Now that is run out of Access Living.
Has anyone been in contact with them to discuss this resolution and
their goals for this task force?

Also, one of the highest priorities of the Federation right now is
ending sub-minimum wages for workers with disabilities. Some big and
influential names in the Chicago disability community have 14C
certificates. One big change that will significantly impact the lives
of people with disabilities would be for the city council to pass an
ordinance that would prevent city funds from going to any organization
that pays people with disabilities below the minimum wage. The
ordinance would not impact us much as the Lighthouse pays the minimum
wage.

Chicago has raised its minimum wage and excluded people with
disabilities from this benefit. Now all the folks from Access Living
want it seems is a spineless task force to sit and discuss rather than
stopping city taxes from supporting disability exploitation. Perhaps
we should contact the Access Living folks to discuss city council
action to stop city funds from going to organizations that pay
sub-minimum wages.
