The 2017 Great Lakes Braille Readers Are Leaders Contest (Great Lakes BRAL)
has come to an end. All of the Great Lakes affiliates took part in this
first multi-state competition for K-12 Braille readers: Minnesota,
Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York.
Fourty-four students registered for the contest, and thirty-nine submitted
reading logs. Altogether the participants read a whopping 16,540 pages! The
first-place winner in the grades 6-8 category, and the top reader in the
entire contest, is Anthony Spears, a seventh grader from Mattoon, Illinois.
Anthony (who goes by LT) read 4,015 Braille pages during the contest period,
which ran between December 1 and January 20!
Below is a list of the 2017 BRAL winners, presented by grade category. Thank
you for supporting the 2017 Great Lakes BRAL Contest!
