I am writing to convey extreme disappointment in the captia system you employ. It does not work for blind people. The audio option does nothing on the PC or the I-phone. Many blind people tried to submit comments on this bill and could not do so. Given that Illinois has a specific state law relative to the accessibility of government pages, this is astonishing. The legislature can’t hear our voice on crucial issues relating to blindness.

This issue should be fixed immediately or you should find an alternative to captia’s such as asking people to answer a simple math problem. Feel free to contact me with questions. We also plan to reach out to Senator Cullerton who sponsored the technology bill I mentioned regarding the problem.

Kathy,

Thank you for your email and for letting us know. Unfortunately we don't have control over the website where you can submit witness slips. It is a State of Illinois website - the site is maintained for the Illinois General Assembly by the Legislative Information System. But I do think you should make them aware of the issues with their site.

Here is the contact information listed on the site -

Office: (217) 782-3944

TTY: (217) 782-2050

Email: webmaster at ilga.gov

Also please let me know if you hear of anyone having problems with the www.noilbeveragetax.com <http://www.noilbeveragetax.com/> website. There is a form there to contact legislators and we want to ensure it's accessible for all.

Thank you.

Lauren

I am not sure if anyone else informed you but our blind and visually impaired group tried to respond to this website and had accessibility issues. See below. This is unfair that they cannot access this and submit their opposition like everyone else can. Just an FYI

Thank you,

I agree we should complain. This is a state web site. I can't even do it
on my PC using Firefox and the Webvisum pluggin which is supposed to
translate captias.

Cordially,

Bill

Filling out a witness slip takes less than five minutes, but could have a huge effect on the committee's decision.
