Hi Bob. Well, the Laptop I'm talking about already had windows 10 on it.
It's only over a year old, but, hasn't really been used. When I called F
S on Thursday, the guy tanndamly upgraded my JAWS 16t o the highest upgrade
of 16. I will try the hot keys. I also did already try the run and
typed Jaws 16. That did not work.
Thanks Andrew too!
Any other suggestions might help too!
Thanks!
Linda

Hi Linda

I'm no expert, but here's what I know, or think I know:

First of all, not all versions of JAWS 16 will work with Windows 10. You
need version JAWS 16.0.4350 or higher. Or in other words, the first,
earliest versions of JAWS 16 won't work with Windows 10.

Secondly, was your laptop a Windows 10 machine to begin with? Seems to me I
remember your laptop was a Windows 7 machine. If you are updating from
Windows 7 to Windows 10 with JAWS 16 on it, that can be a very tricky
process. I believe you were supposed to uninstall early versions of JAWS 16,
then update to Windows 10, then install a later version of JAWS 16. I'm
going on my memories from some years ago, and I may have that all wrong.

It's common practice to set up a hotkey to start JAWS, but I don't know if
that was ever done on your computer. That is usually alt-control-j.

One can also start JAWS by typing in something like "jaws16" in the RUN box.
Maybe someone else on the list can tell you exactly how to do that. The last
time I tried to do that, I couldn't get it to work and realized I'd
forgotten exactly how to do that.

Inyour situation I think you need some sighted help or someone blind who is
familiar with Windows Narrator, which will have the computer talking to you
(but not like JAWS). Also, someone in those categories could get a 40-minute
trial version of JAWS2019 going to see exactly where your computer is.

All in all, if that was my computer, I'd consider I've got a mess on my
hands. Again, maybe someone on the list is more knowledgeable on this than
me.

Hello everyone,
I am having some issues with a newer Laptop I have. My husband put JAWS
16 in it, and other programs. I called F S the other day, and they
upgraded JAWS 16. Then, I had to call Microsoft to upgrade windows 10,
cause the Laptop hasn’t been used since early last year.
After the download and upload of windows 10, which took 6 hours, my JAWS
stopped talking. I called F S and they said JAWS 16 isn’t compatible with
Windows 10. They said I’d have to upgrade to JAWS 19. I heard that
Jaws 16 is compatible with Windows 10. Is it possible that I shut off
JAWS by accident?
What keys should I hit to see if JAWS will go back on?
Thanks for any help or any other suggestions.
Sincerely,
Linda
