It would be ideal if there were some manual/electric wheelchair users who
would also be willing to go "on the record" or be filmed.

Yes, I would definitely welcome suggestions on how to better navigate
revolving doors as well as the chance to learn more about the transportation
committee. But don't forget, there are also people with "invisible"
limitation/disabilities who may have different challenges with revolving
doors so I feel it is important for folks to decide for themselves about
using the ADA entrance vs revolving doors. Basically, people should not
have to ask for "permission" to use an existing ADA entrance or be limited
to use it only for certain hours when revolving doors allows open use 24
hours of the day and this scenario seems to be encountered quite regularly.
Hopefully any solution is applicable for all.

There are multiple ways to accomplish something and sometimes the court of
public opinion can have a significant effect for a timely resolution. So
please let me know if anyone with a visible disability (wheelchair, uses
white cane, etc.) is willing to help make a difference!

Hello,

Our Chicago Chapter and our state affiliate both work on breaking down
barriers. We welcome your involvement. Our next Chicago Chapter meeting is
the second Saturday in April at 1:00 pm at Ex Chequer 226 S. Wabash. We have
a transportation committee which is active. Right now we are working on the
issue of electronic scooters in Chicago. Collective action is the way to go.
If you wish to work on transportation you should reach out to our state
president, Denise Avant, at 773 991 8050. She appoints our committees and I
think transportation may be meeting soon. By the way, there are some
techniques which some of us use to navigate revolving doors we could share
if that also interests you. Please join us.

Reaching out to see if anyone is willing to go "on the record" about some of
the struggles with navigating around Chicago with a white cane? I am hoping
to emphasize some of the challenges that people with disabilities (visible
and "invisible") have in accessing buildings/businesses without accessible
entrances and/or buildings with ADA compliant entrances but refuse to allow
open access to them.

I was trying to hire this attorney for some legal work but his firm is in a
building that requires people to request and be approved each time to use
the non-revolving doors. I spent over 10 minutes trying to get into that
building for the meeting. It is bad enough to have to ask but then to be
denied if they do not see a wheelchair or delivery cart. This felt like the
first test of my new business venture (developing products for use by people
with disabilities). Am I just looking to make some money or trying to make
a difference? I decided to stand by my principles and have made the
building's ADA compliance mandatory for his firm to work for me. They are
now "working on it".

This got me thinking about all other times encountering similar scenarios
and I am sure others have as well. Is anyone else willing to demonstrate on
film? Please contact me directly and I can provide more information.

Maybe together we can make a difference~
