Obituary for Courtney Lea Hummel
Courtney Lea Hummel, 37, of Normal, passed away at 9:25 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal. 

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. 

Memorials may be directed to Guiding Eyes for the Blind at www.guidingeyes.org 

Courtney was born April 26, 1982 in Normal, the daughter of John “Greg” and Susan Heath Hummel. 

She is survived by her mother, Susan Hummel of Normal; a brother, Chris (Jackie) Hummel of Bloomington and a sister, Cara (Scott) Nelson of Bloomington; two nieces and a nephew, Josephine, Sophia and Jackson Hummel; and her guide dog and faithful companion, Macbeth. 

She was preceded in death by her father. 

Courtney attended Illinois School for the Visually Impaired in Jacksonville, Illinois which prepared her for living independently. She was a dedicated employee at Applebee’s and loved to bake. She had many friends and was always trying to find one of them to have a cup of coffee with her.  

Courtney will be remembered for her kind, loving soul and her fierce independence.
