Illinois June at Large Meeting Notes:
The meeting is called to order at 7:14 PM on June 7, 2020. This was our first meeting done through the zoom platform. All of the meetings in the future will also take place through zoom. People in attendance are Marilyn Green, Denise Avant, Ellen Bartelt, Bill Reif, Leslie Hamric, Linda Hendle, Debbie Pittman, Danny Mandrell, Sara Luna, and Jenna Deupree. The pledge is given by Leslie Hamric. There is one correction that needs to be made to the May notes. Ryan Wilms last name was misspelled. Beside for this correction the May meeting notes were approved by the members. Members went around and said what they are thankful for during the month. Many members are thankful to have NFB meetings done through zoom. They are able to hear the voices of other members. Members are also thankful that they have food and a shelter to live in during the virus.
National Presidential Report: The national convention will take place virtually from July 14 through July 18. The agenda is posted to nfb.org/convention. There are zoom numbers and links listed for all of the meeting during national convention. The general sessions will be stream through nfb.org. Members who have any questions about national convention can be sent to communityrelation at nfb.org. Members who have door prizes for convention can reach out to your state president, and they have a letter on what to do with them. There will be a rookie roundup on July 9, at 7:30. Remember we are all first timers to a virtual convention. President Riccobono wrote an open letter about Black Lives Matter called Loves Congress Hate. The letter can be found at nfb.org. The NFB also wrote a statement regarding Black Lives Matter which, can be found at nfb.org. Many states are working on vote from home bills to make privet voting for all blind people. Everyone in the national office is excited for national convention.
State Presidential Report: There are four state scholarship winners. There also are two runner ups who will receive money to attend 2021 national convention. Sara Luna is our national scholarship winner. The state of Illinois will be having a virtual convention taking place October 30 through November 1. The face to face board meeting taking place August 29, will be virtual instead of in person. There is not any reason to tour a hotel for an in person convention until 2021. The next state board meeting will take place June 17, 2020 at 7:00 PM. When people have ideas for a fem for state convention email your ideas to Denise at davant1958 at gmail.com.
Treasury Report: Members have been asking how much is in our treasury. After the first quarter there is 625 dollars and 96 cents. The main source of income is dues that members pay every year. There also is the pizza party during state convention. Members decided they only want to have a treasury report after the fourth quarter. The reason for this is because it is right after state convention. Members decided that some money in the treasury should be spent on blind people in the state. Members decided to give 25 dollars to each of the four funds for national convention. The four funds are Sun, White Cane, tenBroek, and Jernigan.
New and Old Business: There is not any old or new business.
The meeting is adjourn at 9:20.
June Minutes signed by Ellen Bartelt Secretary.
