Dear Dave,
I want to extend my condolences to Camille's family and friends on behalf of
the National Federation of the Blind of Illinois and myself. You have
detailed all of the things she did to help blind people live productively
and independent lives. Before I ever had the ability to look up anything on
a computer, I was able to read my phone bill and light bill in Braille.
Directions for me was instrumental in helping me get basic instructions for
cooking and learning about ingredients for various items. For the last two
years or so, Horizons has embossed agendas and resolutions for our state
convention and other events. Please keep us informed when you know where we
can send cards etc. Camille will be missed.

Subject: [IL-Talk] sad news
It is with a heavy heart that I write this. Camille Caffarelli, founder and
executive director of Horizons for the Blind passed away last night. She
faught a brave battle with cancer for something over a year.
Having worked with Camille on several boards and state committees, I came to
know her as a loving, caring individual who always held the blind community
close to her heart.
Many of us were beneficiaries of Camille's vision in tangible ways. If you
ever received a cable bill, a phone bill or a gas bill, or perhaps even a
bank statement in braille, it is likely that Horizons for the Blind was
responsible for brailling your bill. If you ever consulted Directions for Me
for package instructions on preparing foods, you can thank Camille again, as
this site was created thanks to Horizons for the Blind and her vision.
If I hear anything regarding funeral or memorial arrangements, I will let
you know.
Finally, Camille, may you rest in peace.
