I'm glad blind people are pursuing accounting as a career. The more diversity we represent in the work world, the better this is for everyone. I could certainly not do accounting. Math was my worst subject in school. Many frustrating hours doing long division on Braille paper, complicated numeric calculations using an abacus, and cutting my fingers when drawing with a compass to complete geometry assignments.

To any students who are proficient with screen-readers, this seems to me a good chance to help improve accounting software accessibility.
In my experience, I had a very hard time doing accounting homework and I would love for future students to have a better time. I'm not sure, though, how this would affect the unique interfaces that colleges use (if not an accounting application).

The National Federation of the Blind is searching for individuals to participate in 10 hours of user testing of the accessibility and usability of accounting tables. Compensation of $250.00 will be provided.

If you meet the following criteria and are interested in participating, please email me.

1. You are blind or low-vision.

2. You are a student or recent graduate and either have taken an
accounting class or are familiar with accounting principles. You do not need to have accounting expertise. We are looking for a cross-section of skill levels.

3. You are proficient using screen reader access technology.

Thank you.

Best,

Stacie Dubnow
