Got this from the High Speed Rail Alliance.  It looks like there’s some movement in the Illinois Legislature concerning high speed rail in Illinois.  I’m forwarding this in case anyone wants to urge support for this legislation.

Support the IL High Speed Railway Commission 

A bill  <https://default.salsalabs.org/Teaefbb0f-7f2d-4eff-b54d-50798eababe7/a98e9a8a-29d4-4ae1-b15c-66780146b649> (HB399) that would create a High-Speed Railway Commission in Illinois, introduced by Representative Martin Moylan, is going before the IL Senate Transportation Committee on May 11th.

Checking "proponent" and "record of appearance only" would be very valuable. This commission would be responsible for creating a statewide plan for a high-speed rail line and feeder network connecting St. Louis, Missouri and Chicago, that include current existing Amtrak and Metra services, connects the cities of Rockford, Moline, Peoria and Decatur, and uses inter-city bus service to coordinate with the rail line. 

We have long pushed for Illinois to create a transportation system that meets the economical and environmental challenges of the 21st century. This starts with a statewide plan for modernizing intercity trains, commuter trains, transit systems and buses—and integrating them into a robust, connected network.

If passed, the Commission would conduct a ridership study and shall make findings and recommendations concerning a governance structure, the frequency of service, and implementation of the plan. The Commission would provide yearly reports and be assisted by the Department of Transportation 

We are excited by this effort, which takes a big picture approach to planning intercity passenger rail and integrating transit systems to bring more value to the network.
