[IL-Talk] Suggestions about Using Lyft

Hi Dan:
While I've been fortunate out here in DuPage to get drivers whose English
may not be perfect but that I can at least understand, we've had our share
of issues. I get worried when I get in the vehicle and the GPS isn't
speaking in English. We have run into drivers who are so dependent on GPS
that they can't seem to get to the place we want to go, they expect the GPS
to take them right there. That's compounded when there's a language issue.
Also, our condo complex can be tricky to navigate at night.
One thing I've done is to set up a keyboard shortcut I can type in and have
it put a pickup note in telling the driver I'm visually impaired and please
honk when they arrive. Now that can be a problem in Downtown Chicago,
because everyone honks (smile). Doing that has seemed to help quite a bit.
Thanks,
Ray Campbell

Subject: [IL-Talk] Suggestions about Using Lyft
Hi All,
I am running into a few issues with drivers. When they pick me up I can't
find the car and they don't seem to understand my text messages. Many of the
drivers don't speak English so it is hard to tell if they are taking me to
the correct address. I use Aira to schedule Lyft but sometimes the
connection drops or they can't find the driver either. Someone mentioned
using a shortcut in the Lyft app to send a message to the driver notifying
them I am blind and that they will need to identify themselves by speaking
or honking their horn. Traveling has become a real challenge. I don't
usually have a sighted person who can take me on errands and I hate
bothering people.
Thanks,
Dan
