[IL-Talk] IL-Talk Digest, Vol 235, Issue 7

Good afternoon everyone,

My imune system is only at 80% and I have had several eye hemherages over the past few months. Which is why I haven’t been around. I have been using a walker to get around my house many days of the week. I am still dealing with a post 2nd COVID-19 vacine reaction that is causing swelling (oberbed by hearing strider) in my upper respiratory track. It doesn’t help that I have had alergic reactions to all the medications they have tried so far. I hope to see everyone at least on Zoom in January or February and beyond.

17.1.1 is out. I checked the developer release notes and there wasn’t any mention of the UIKit (the thing that makes the buttons on the screen) having any isues. I have 23 Apple devices running a variety of versions of their operating system. I did not see any issues on 17.1 on an iPhone 12 Pro or 13 Pro Max on 17.1. There are a couple of issues I will share.

1) There is an intermitant bug that reports a “SIM Error”. If you phone uses an eSIM rather than a physical SIM you likely won’t see this issue. I have physical SIMs in both devices and solved the problem by going into “Airplane Mode” from the control center and then turning it off after a few seconds. I am testing this issue with 17.1.1 over the next 2 days to see if it fixed the issue and Apple just didn’t want to share their dirty laundry.

2) 17.1 was causing a higher battery drain that 17.0.3. Unless you have a reason to go to 17.1, such as you upgraded to an iPhone 15 which requires it, I would stay on 17.0.3 for at least the next few weeks. We have a few more BETAs for 17.2 before it is released in mod tp late December. I am running that on two test devices.

3) 17.2 Does yield Apple’s jounaling app. To my dismay it isn’t being made available on iPadOS and MacOS, which is unfortunately. As if one is using the journalling app you would want access to it on all desktop and mobile computing devices.

4) If my testing with 17.2 goes good I will likely install the release candidate on my production devices.

Hello Everyone,

If you have updated your I-Phone to 17.1 and you have the BARD app on your
phone, please see if you have all the buttons on your BARD screen when
listening to a book.  Also see if you can change the speed of a book.  If
you can give feedback on these issues I would appreciate it.  Apple does not
want to own up to the problems their updates are causing.

Debbie.  I have updated my iPhone 13 pro max to 17;.1 and I can see

all the buttons on the play screen of bard mobile.  You also might
want to reinitialize your bard mobile in settings, and login to bard.
Good luck.

Hi Debbie,

I just installed today's update and don't see any issues with BARD Mobile. I'm using an iPhone 12 Pro. When people find bugs with software updates, they are often only found on certain individual devices. I know the BARD app can be temperamental and not work. In addition to the suggestions others have provided I might recommend rebooting your phone. If you do decide to reinstall BARD Mobile, you will need to keep track of the books you currently have on your phone because they will be removed. You can look in your previously downloaded list to find them again though. NLS is working on a new version of BARD Mobile but it's not available yet. I hope you get your issue straightened out. Let me know if you need any help and I can walk you through the process.

Dan
