Taxi Access Program (TAP)
April 2026 update:
A change is coming soon to Pace's Taxi Access Program.
- The number of TAP and RAP <https://www.pacebus.com/rap> rides
available to qualified ADA-Certified riders is increasing from 30 to 40
rides per month per rider for those who apply and are approved, effective
July 1, 2026.
- Starting May 1, 2026, TAP and RAP enrollees can visit
https://fares.RTAChicago.org <https://fares.rtachicago.org/> to apply
for the increase to 40 rides per month. It may take up to 45 days for a
rider’s application to be processed and take effect.
- For riders who do not apply for an increase, the 30 ride-per-month cap
will remain in place.
- TAP and *RAP* <https://www.pacebus.com/rap> fares will remain at $3.25
per trip, equal to the ADA Paratransit fare.
- ADA-certified riders can continue to ride free on CTA
<https://www.transitchicago.com/>, Metra <https://www.metra.com/>, and Pace
fixed routes <https://www.pacebus.com/accessible-fixed-routes>.
What is TAP?
Pace’s Taxi Access Program (TAP) is a taxi subsidy program for ADA eligible
riders choosing to use Chicago taxi providers for same-day trips instead of
using ADA paratransit services.
To request an accessible taxi, call the City of Chicago’s centralized WAV
taxi dispatch service at (888) 928-2227.

Who is eligible to enroll in TAP?
RTA-certified ADA paratransit riders are eligible to enroll in TAP if they
are not enrolled in Pace’s Rideshare Access Program (RAP).
Enrollment in TAP is voluntary and will not affect a rider’s ADA
certification.
How does TAP work?
Eligible riders enrolled in TAP will pay the first $3.25 of the cost of a
trip taken with a Chicago taxi provider if the origin of the trip is within
the City of Chicago; Pace will subsidize the cost of the trip after the
first $3.25 and not exceeding $30.00. Eligible riders will also be
responsible for paying:
- any portion of the cost of the trip that exceeds $30.00;
- any taxi surcharge applicable to the trip (*e.g.*, wait and return
surcharge); and
- any taxi driver tip.
Pace will subsidize no more than *30 one-way trips per month* for each
eligible rider enrolled in TAP.
How do eligible RTA-certified ADA paratransit riders request enrollment in
TAP?
To request enrollment in TAP, call (833) 722-3827 or complete the TAP
Enrollment Form below and click Submit. Within approximately three weeks
after Pace’s approval of a request for enrollment in TAP, Pace will mail a
TAP card to the enrollee at the enrollee’s address on file with the RTA.
Keep TAP cards in a safe place. Do not give or lend TAP cards to others.
TAP enrollees who allow someone else to use their TAP card are engaging in
fraudulent conduct and will be terminated from TAP and prosecuted to the
fullest extent of the law.
*Call Pace at (800) 606-1282 <(800)%20606-1282> and select Option 4 with
any questions regarding TAP. Call the City of Chicago at 311 to report any
taxi-related issues.*
How do TAP enrollees load TAP trip fares onto their TAP card?
TAP enrollees must activate their TAP card by following the directions
provided with their TAP card and then may load TAP trip fares onto their
TAP card as follows:
*ONLINE*
Click TAP LOGIN PAGE <https://secure.cabconnect.com/cardone/pacepp.html> to
log in to the TAP account management site (a non-Pace site) and to pay the
TAP trip fares to be loaded onto the TAP card with an American Express,
Discover, MasterCard, or Visa credit or debit card.
*BY MAIL*

print and complete the TAP Ride by Mail Order Form, and mail the completed
Form and payment for the TAP trip fares to be loaded onto the TAP card to:
Pace Suburban Bus, Attention: Treasury Department, 550 W. Algonquin Road,
Arlington Heights, IL 60005. Payment must be made by money order, cashier’s
check, or American Express, Discover, MasterCard, or Visa credit or debit
card. Cash and personal checks will not be accepted.
*IN PERSON*
Present the TAP card to the cashier/teller at the currency exchange at 3158
W. Irving Park Road, Chicago, IL or 353 W. 79th Street, Chicago, IL and pay
the TAP trip fares to be loaded onto the TAP card. Payment must be made by
cash, money order, or credit or debit card. Personal checks will not be
accepted. No one other than TAP enrollees may request TAP trip fares be
loaded onto their TAP card at those currency exchanges.
The minimum number of TAP trip fares that may be loaded onto a TAP card at
one time is 8, and the maximum number of TAP trip fares that may be loaded
onto a TAP card in one month is 30. TAP trip fares are good for one year
from the date they are loaded onto a TAP card and are non-refundable and
non-transferable.
How do TAP enrollees pay for trips?
At the end of each one-way trip, TAP enrollees must swipe their TAP card in
the card reader in the back of the taxi. TAP enrollees will be responsible
for the entire cost of the trip if no TAP trip fares are loaded onto their
TAP card.
Pace will reimburse the taxi provider for the subsidized portion of the
cost of the trip.
A TAP card may not be used for trip payment on any mobile taxi app.
How do TAP enrollees replace a lost or stolen TAP card?
TAP enrollees must contact Pace by email at passenger.services at pacebus.com or
by calling (800) 606-1282 and selecting Option 4 to report that their TAP
card is lost or stolen and to request that their TAP card be deactivated
and a replacement TAP card be issued. Pace is not responsible for
unauthorized trips taken before a TAP card is reported lost or stolen.
The cost for a replacement TAP card is $6.50, which equals two $3.25 TAP
trip fares. Upon Pace’s receipt of a TAP enrollee’s replacement TAP card
request, that cost will be deducted from the TAP enrollee’s TAP card.
