Hi Seyoon,
I was really excited to hear you had moved to Illinois and joined the SXU community from my sister. I will tell you that both are incredible communities. In terms of the Illinois affiliate, they are incredibly dedicated, and they are incredibly kind. I moved away nearly 20 years ago, but I remained involved as a member until I was elected as president of a different affiliate because the Illinois affiliate Diggs into your heart and soul and just does not let go. I’ve remained on the listserve and try to visit when I can, and my goal is to move back to Illinois at some point. You’ll understand how wonderful this community of blind people is quickly enough. Feel free to reach out to me directly as well, to my knowledge, you and I are the only two people who have ever both worked at SXU and been part of the NFB of Illinois.

I recently relocated from Saint Louis, Missouri and have found a new home on the southwest side of Chicago. I am looking forward to becoming involved with the Illinois affiliate and getting to know many of you!

I have also held leadership roles within committees and been in the thick of local chapter work prior to relocating. Professionally, my background is in vocational rehabilitation and accessibility. I previously worked as a Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with Missouri Department of Social Services, Rehabilitation Services for the Blind, and I am now beginning a new chapter in the Chicago region as an Accessibility Resource Specialist at Saint Xavier University.

I would be grateful to learn more about upcoming meetings, committees, events, and ways I can contribute to the work of the Illinois affiliate.
