Four hearings will be held in Chicago, four in suburban Cook County, and one each in DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties.</p>
<p>The proposed budget is balanced and includes $7.6 million of new service, including $6.6 million for a full year of service implemented in late 2015 and an additional $1 million of new service to begin in late 2016. Another key proposal is a $0.25 fare increase impacting only fixed route customers who pay with cash- customers using <a href="http://links.govdelivery.com:80/track?type=click&enid=ZWFzPTEmbWFpbGluZ2lkPTIwMTUxMDA4LjUwMDMxNTgxJm1lc3NhZ2VpZD1NREItUFJELUJVTC0yMDE1MTAwOC41MDAzMTU4MSZkYXRhYmFzZWlkPTEwMDEmc2VyaWFsPTE3NDYzOTg4JmVtYWlsaWQ9cm9iZXJ0aGFuc2VuMTk3MEBnbWFpbC5jb20mdXNlcmlkPXJvYmVydGhhbnNlbjE5NzBAZ21haWwuY29tJmZsPSZleHRyYT1NdWx0aXZhcmlhdGVJZD0mJiY=&&&101&&&http://www.ventrachicago.com/" target="_blank">Ventra</a> would not be affected. The higher cash fare, which would bring Pace in line with similar policies in place for several years at other transit and transportation agencies in the region, encourages the use of Ventra versus cash in order to mitigate the costs associated with collecting and handling cash. Ventra offers a number of money-saving benefits to customers, including a secure, account-based system and the ability to buy passes and $0.25 transfer fares when changing routes.</p>

If that funding is not received, a fare increase could be proposed at a later date.
