Jayhawk Chapter Monthly Meeting Minutes June 18, 2011

Location: Independence INC 2001 Haskell Avenue Lawrence, Kansas 66046

Time: 2:00-4:00PM

Officers: Chikako Mochizuki, President; rob Tabor, Vice President; Susan
Tabor, Secretary; Bob Fuller, Treasurer

                                                

MEETING COMMENCEMENT:

.        Greetings

.        Introduction (if any guests are attending)

The meeting was called to order by our president Chikako Mochizuki at 2:00
p.m. Members present were:  Chikako Mochizuki, Rob Tabor, Susan Tabor, Bob
Fuller, Luther Fuller, Brendy Latare, Sidney Roedel, Ron Miller and Cheryl
Miller.

 

OFFICERS' REPORT:

.        President's Report

.        Chikako is preparing for the National Federation for the Blind
Convention the first week in July. She reported that our booth at the Lions
State Convention had been well received and that it had been a good
investment of our time and energy. Chikako has joined the Lawrence Lions
Club and hopes to continue to increase collaboration possibilities between
our chapter and the Lawrence Lions Club. 

 

.        Vice President's report

.        Rob Tabor is also preparing to attend the National NFB Convention
in Orlando, Florida the first of July. He agreed that our booth at the Lions
State Convention had been a good investment of our time and energy.

.         

.        Secretary's report

.        Susan reminded members that he had cases of candy bars available
for people to take with them to sell. (Chikako took a  case, Rob has some in
his office, Millers took  a case and Susan has a case.)

.         

.        Treasurer's report

.        Bob reported a balance of $515.94. He paid $170 for the purchase of
the  candy bars and the chapter decided by consensus that when the payment
was due for the pizza coupons to send a check for payment of those as well.
To date, 4 pizza coupons were sold and 136 candy bars have been sold.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

.        Seeking for an opportunity for Fund Raising for our chapter

(1)   Continuing discussion on The Louis Braille coin which still has not
been s

(2)   The chapter decided by consensus that the coin would be in a drawing
at the Lions' state  mi-winter rally. .

.        Participating Lions Club State convention

(1)   Reflecting on our first experience in participating in the convention.

(2)   Looking toward our future participation. 

All members agreed it had been a good experience and would be willing to do
it again.

NEW BUSINESS:

.        Fall/winter social for Jayhawk Chapter (what about something fun
for everyone?)  I.E. a short field trip to somewhere nearby from Lawrence.

.        There was more discussion of ideas. Chikako has started horseback
riding lessons and this was discussed. No firm decision was made. There was
also discussion of having a social outing to a local restaurant once a month
outside the meeting for anyone who could attend.

.        Receiving Proclamation from the City of Lawrence during the "Meet
the Blind Month"

In October

People will check their email for earlier copies of the Proclamation and
will also check the City of Lawrence website where a form for drafting the
Proclamation might be located. Sidney will see if she can obtain information
about earlier drafts of the proclamation from James Canaday. Chikako will
make contact with the secretary for the City Commission to let her know of
our interest in having a proclamation.

MISCELLANEOUS:

.        Reconfirming whether to carry over our July Chapter Meeting to
August due to our NFB National convention coming up in Orlando, FL from July
3 through July 8, 2011?

.        The chapter, by consensus, decided to forego the July chapter
meeting due to the national Convention in July. We will meet next n August
20.

.        National Officers' Report:

Presidential Release. 

This was assigned for people to download and listen to before the
convention.

MEETING ADJOURNMENT

The meeting was adjourned at roughly 3:45 p.m.
