> The state board had voted to provide $500.00 assistance to anyone who would like to attend the NFB National Convention. That offer has been extended to $1,000 for those members who have extenuating circumstances. Rob instructed that anyone who wants to attend the national convention and receive assistance needs to notify him promptly. He plans to submit the names in one week.

> On June 4, 2013, as part of the River Fest, the South Central chapter is going to conduct an event called “Ability Day.” It will run from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and the goal is to demonstrate how a blind person functions at home and in the work place.

> The “Collaborative Strategies Seminar for Successful Employment” is scheduled for June 11, 2013. It will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Holidome in Lawrence, and we are encouraged to attend. Rob said that there has been some resistance from Voc-Rehab.

>
> Old Business:
> The only matter of old business was to decide upon a social event. We agreed to have a cookout at Centennial Park on Saturday, June 8. Set up for the event will begin at 11:00 a.m. Sidney will be checking on reserving the shelter from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., as well as orchestrating a record of the side dishes that members will bring. Sidney also volunteered to purchase the meat, buns and condiments, and the chapter will reimburse that expense.
>
> New Business:
> The only order of new business was to decide whether we want to gather for the chapter social at Centennial Park in lieu of the June Meeting and skip our regularly scheduled July meeting. There was a consensus to omit the July meeting.
>
> Knowledge Based Presentation:
> Joane Siler from Blind Lutheran Outreach Ministries, which is a program offered through Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lawrence, spoke to us about this program. On the third Thursday of the month, they organize a meeting and meal for blind people. The evening includes a Bible Study and sometimes a speaker, games and/or music. They also arrange or provide transportation to enable people to be able to attend. She informed us that their ministry has the equipment and software necessary to do brailing, and they are seeking ways to put that equipment to use. She would appreciate all ideas that we might come up with. It was suggested that producing restaurant menus and church information in Braille are two beneficial potential uses of the equipment. Rob said that he would be willing to help produce the physical brailing.
