Greetings All,

Below is a forward about an upcoming water skiing event. Tina has been working on this for a couple of months. This is a part of efforts to increase awareness for athletic and sporting opportunities.

> Tina Jinkens, formerly with Camp Fire USA’s Adventure Fitness, has made arrangements with the local Mo Kan waterskiing club east of Lawrence, Kansas, to provide an afternoon of water skiing and tubing for adults and youth ages 12 and up who are blind or low vision. Much thanks to Tina, who has reached out to partner with The Whole Person’s Blindness Low Vision Experience, and we are pleased to join in spreading the word! The event will be held on Tuesday, September 5 from one until 6 PM.
> The lake is located just east of Lawrence off of The south side of K-10 on the west side of 1900 road about a quarter mile south of the highway. There will be transportation available from and returning to The Whole Person. From K-10, you will basically turn south on 1900 Road and go about a quarter mile and turn right onto a road that takes you to the lake.
> A Google map and waiver for all participants or guardians to sign will be sent to you when you RSVP.
> Please spread the word and let people know to RSVP to Sheila Styron or Tina Jinkens at 785-615-8373 or by email at tmjinkens at gmail.com <mailto:tmjinkens at gmail.com>. The ski club can accommodate a range of 6 to 10 participants, maybe a few more, so it will be first come first serve. If you have someone younger than 12 in mind who is physically active and a go-getter, please let Tina know and she will speak with the club about it. We realize this is probably a school day, but youth who would like to participate can arrive at 4:30 or five and still get some skiing in. Youth must be accompanied by an adult.
>
> Both water skiing and tubing will be available. Participants can choose to ski off the side of the boat on a boom which makes it fairly easy to get up and experience skiing. Participants can also ski on a rope attached to the boom or on a full line at the back of the boat like usual waterskiing. Lifejackets are available, but people may wish to bring their own if they have one that fits well and is comfortable. Participants may also consider bringing a towel and a lawn chair. A dock is available where people can sit and dangle their feet in the water. Participants can also Wade beside the dock if they wish
> A shed is available that has some cover for shade for guide dogs if needed. Tina will be working on arrangements for pizza for participants and volunteers, and participants who would like pizza are welcome to bring five to $10 to contribute.
> If you would like to make a donation for the pizza for volunteers, that would be much appreciated as well!
> Some of you may remember this event from around 10 years ago through Camp Fire USA’s Adventure Fitness, which experience was excellent and which we look forward to again being an awesome opportunity for fun in the sun in 2017!
> Please contact Tina or Sheila with questions and your interest in participating.
