Good morning, Kansas Federationists,
It's hard to believe that the 2024 state convention is a mere 2 weeks from now. So the time is ripe to begin preparing resolutions to be vetted by the resolutions committee. In the Federation, resolutions are not just written, voted in, and then forgotten. Rather, they are the official blindness policy declarations of our organization and movement.
As most of you know, resolutions consist of two major elements — the "whereas" clauses and the "Be it resolved" clauses. The "whereas" clause or clauses, spell out a problem experienced by the blind, and the "Be it resolved" clauses propose a solution to the problem. Therefore, all resolutions must include at least one "whereas" and at least one "be it resolved" clause.
If you have a general idea of what kind of resolution you want, do the best you can and I'll work with you to help you tone up the language and make sure the technical elements are intact. Please send your proposed resolution or resolution idea to the email address below my close/signature block. Please be sure to include your phone number in case I need to call you to collaborate on the details.
Finally, chapter presidents, remember to appoint a member of your chapter if you want your chapter to be represented on the committee.
Meanwhile, happy resoluting, and I hope to see you at convention.
Best regards,
Rob Tabor | first vice president / resolutions chairman National Federation of the Blind of Kansas
