[Job-Discussions] 'This isn't Bernie's first rodeo': Senate Republicans tried to force Democrats to take a tough vote on a $15 minimum wage, but it did not go as planned

Please correct me if I'm wrong about me believing a blind S.S.D.I. wage earner being able to/allowed to net earn a monthly income of $2,190.00 during 2021 for them to continue receiving their S.S.D.I. indefinitely. So, I'm confident confirming my belief of a blind S.S.D.I. wage earner earning $17.00 an hour working 40 hours a week earns $2,958.00 a month. Therefore, $768.00 a month is what the blind S.S.D.I. wage earner needs in their costs to work expenses/deductions such as work transportation costs, Guide Dog expense and/or the many other costs blind people have to lower their S.G.A./Substantial Gained Amount for them to be able to work their job worry free of the horrible circumstances of giving-up and/or losing their S.S.D.I.. A blind employed person has many legitimate expenses/costs for them to be able to be substantually employed and we all know the major cost to work deduction from our countable income is our transportation to/from work each day. So, a blind employed person paying someone $700.00-$800.00 a month is not out of line in my opinion. But, I'd rather earn the exact $2,190.00 a month and not deduct a cent/penny from my countable income because legitimately playing the deduction/work expense game with the S.S.A. is not a fun game to play! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Steve

Yeah we do. Learn how to take all the deductions you can and you can happily still earn a good wage.

Then Jordon, why don't we on social security get a pay rate comparable to the new minimym wage of $15 per hour...which is double what it is now for federal workers?

I disagree completely. The minimum wage must be increased to $15 an hour and those of us on Social Security need to make sure we know the rulesand follow them. We will be just fine.

That is not true. See this article, which explains that increases to that amount will be phased in over the next four years. Enough time for the NFB to react to anything that might hurt you.
