If you hear anything about these companies, please keep me posted and I will do the same.? That might be interesting talking with someone to help them practice English.? I did see a company on line and it was teaching kids.? I forgot the name of it but you have to have a camera on the computer so they can see you.? To me, that sounds very difficult and since being blind, it may be hard for us to read the curriculum that they provide for us. My email is dickblind at gmail.com if you want to contact me. 1. Look through your college transcript. Are any of the courses you took valuable in a real world sense? Did any of the skills you learned, such as research, report writing, etc. match some of the responsibilities on the job description? 2. You cannot assume you won't be able to do a job. Always call or visit and ask. Find out what the responsibilities are in some detail and be prepared to explain how you could do them. 3. Generic experience requirements are not job killers. Today, employers are having to struggle to find qualified people. Experience may not matter as much if they are having trouble finding good people. 4. What alternative techniques or technology do you have and are able to use? That could be a selling point. 5. The fact that you worked at something is good. Do not downgrade your skills or experience. Use it to wow the employer. Remember that some employers will be amazed that you can tie your shoes. That's a start. Contact me for more detailed advice. I'm working on updating my resume and have a few questions. When I was in high school I did 4 different work placements, 2 as part of a career development class and 2 just arranged through the school. These were not paid placements, but when I created my resume during this career development class I put them under work experience, should I leave them there or put them under volunteer experience heading? Also, would 6 referances be enough? If not, then any ideas of who else I could ask? So far I have my bosses from 3 of my work placements, my former high school EA, my former restbite worker who's also a friend, and one of my former high school teachers who's also a friend. I look forward to any thoughts/suggestions/feedback/help anyone can provide me, it will be grately appreciated!!!!!! These can be important experiences, especially if you have not had a lot of other paid experiences. You do not need to include references on your resume. Most people do not. You can put something at the end about references furnished upon request. When you do provide a reference list, 3 or 4 are plenty. Try to use previous supervisors or coworkers. If using a friend, make it someone you may have worked for or done something responsible for such as housesitting, childcare, etc. That makes it easy for the friend to speak to your work ethic. Is it a chronological or a functional resume? The former is a typical resume which includes experience most recent to least recent, while the latter is a potentially abbreviated resume that focuses on your experience and skills rather than specific time periods. (Please correct me if I'm getting this wrong, Dick and/or anyone else). 2. How long ago was the experience, and was the particular job part of a series of"gigs" within the same workshop, or different separate jobs over time? 3. Do you have a lot of paid experience? If not, I would personally just ignore separating out the experience that way, and just list whatever is relevant to the job. You might want to list a separate section for any special honors or unique volunteer experience like serving at the appointment of a state governor or made Dean's List, etc., etc. As to the references, almost every single job I've ever applied for wants a minimum of 3 references, at least 2 of which were work related. I think you're just fine in regards to references. The nice part about it is that you will get many intelligent responses. Mine is to include your volunteer experience as part of your work experience if you don?t have much paid work experience. Employers are more interested in what you have done and know how to do than they are about whether you were paid. Call that section of your resume ?Experience?. The education section should be called ?Education?. Voluntarism is very important with employers today, so as you get more paid work experience, you can develop a ?Volunteer Work? category. Always remember that the purpose of your resume is to advertise yourself to employers, and everyone knows that it is designed to help you look your best. I recommend you put three to five references on your resume. Use name, relationship to you or job title snd employer, email, and phone number. Or you can attach a separate resume sheet. That is because some employers like to check references before they interview people. Including references gives you a leg up with them. But her advice isn?t necessarily wrong, just different. We check once someone is closer to hire and it is nice to have a separate place to get reference info rather than having to find them in a resume, but that is only my opinion and our company's practice. Regardless, make sure that anyone you include knows that you are including him or her as a reference. It is extremely awkward for all parties involved if the person asked to be a reference is completely unaware that this might be something they are asked to do! I would say not to put them on the resume at all. Instead, you can either just have the information handy, or you can create a reference sheet if you really want to have something fancy to hand over to prospective employers. I can email you a sample, or you can run a quick search online for "sample reference sheet". As to the number of references, regardless of whether you use a sheet or put them on the resume directly, you will want to have at least 2 "professional" references and , and you will want to have a total of 3-5 references total. Professional references are people like former supervisors at volunteer activities or jobs, co-workers who can vouch for your ability to do the job, anyone who you trained - if relevant or applicable - etc., etc. Basically anyone who knows your abilities and can vouch for you in a work-related setting. Finally, I cannot echo enough Jennifer's advice about approaching potential references *BEFORE* you put htem down on anything for a job you want to apply to; you will avoid a lot of potential awkwardness at best if you do this. Most of the surveys were accessible. They seem to have more and more visual tasks though, like image captioning and data entry where there is an image of a receipt and you have to type in the data from it. I think it is worth a try though because you may find some tasks you can do. The pay is very low but if you?re looking for just a little extra income it is worth checking out. I find that the surveys, search engine related tasks, and task where you have to Google things and then type in what you found are the most accessible. If something ends up not being accessible, you can always reject the task. You can also search for certain types of tasks using the search box or you can filter them by various filters and types, so you can search for ones that are not image related. sometimes, there are transcription tasks, although I?m not sure how accessible they are. You also get the chance to preview each task before you except it, so I think they give you nine or 10 minutes to preview it so you can decide if you want to take it. I used to do this to determine if it was accessible or not so I wouldn?t have to keep rejecting tasks.
