[Job-Discussions] Writing a reasonable accommodation request?

You would have to explain the time money and circumstance involved.

You'd have ot make sure that what you are asking for is necessary in compairison to other sighted employees.

Because, some of them might have to take uber a train or two buses also.

And, you are only going in one day a week.

You have to explain to someone who is sighted, and doesn't understand that the lack of public transportation is a significant barrier for you in such a way that they can see how it is different from anyone else who is sighted.

Hi,

Let me preface my comment by stating I am not an attorney...but I have spent a lot of time dealing with the laws regarding accommodations in the workplace due to my own personal challenges with my employer, although not specifically this one. I am pretty familiar with EEOC guidance documents though.

With that said, I respectfully disagree that it couldn't be a reasonable accommodation. Here is a link to the EEOC guidance document discussing this.

Hi Claudia,

Two things:

Please sign up for the Job-Discussions list. I had to approve your posting, and I don't know if you will get to see the replies. Here is the link:

You may not be asking for a reasonable accommodation. If I were on the receiving end of your request, I would question whether having to pay for transportation to work via Uber one day a week is much of a hardship for you. They are, after all, paying you to work for them, and many blind people manage to get to work through car pooling and other means. Some employers want their employees in the office at least part time now that Covid is over, and many employees are trying to resist returning to the office. It is likely that a lot of work from home jobs will become less than 100 percent now.

Best wishes,

Hello all, I am currently in the process of attempting, for the second time, to write a reasonable accommodation request. I work for the federal government and I can do my job from home with no issues. There is no added benefit to my being in the office, in order to perform job duties. currently, we have to report to an office once per week. However, this is generally not easy to do due to lack of transportation. I am totally blind and have access to no buses nearby. I would have to take Uber, a train, and two buses to get to the office. and, I would probably never make it on time. How can I word my request, solely based on disability, in order to be allowed to work from home permanently? Tha thanks.
