I have tried since 2013 for that particularposition, and others more recently, and it is definitely clear that they do not want screen reader users. I am working on getting a case open with rehab to get into the Business Enterprise Program and also have an interview with Alphapoint next week for their 508 Compliance Analyst position.

I agree with Haylie. Cincinnati Association for the Blind has a lot of problems that they don’t want to address. Their lack of responsiveness led to the NFB complaint. Air Force document inaccessibility is a real problem.

Every agency is different. I would avoid the Cincinnati Association for the Blind like the plague since they have a lot of issues and will probably never solve them. The Air Force contracts are accessible unlike Dick says. I know this because of dealings with New View in Oklahoma for their Contract Closeout Specialist position. VisionCorps is good, and if I did not have an eye on a job with AlphaPoint, which knows me better than anyone on this list does and has wanted to hire me for about nine years at this point, my second choice would be VisionCorps.

I have an interview next week with a NIB agency for a contract closeout specialist position.

I have heard great things, and I have heard some not so great things about working for a NIB agency. I am speculating that the truth is somewhere in the middle, but I would like to hear about personal experiences if possible.

This position is currently remote, but I have been told it may move back to onsite. My wife is a teacher with a year-to-year contract, and I have 4 kids and own a house. Relocating isn’t out of the question, but it would be quite difficult.

If there is anything you can add without getting in trouble, I’d be interested. If I am offered the position, it might help me decide whether or not to take it. I don’t want to make a life change like this without lots of consideration.

Thanks,

Michael
