Good evening all,
My name is Kariza Goncalves, and I am the Work Readiness Manager at Blind
Industries and Services of Maryland (BISM). In my role, I help individuals
referred by our local vocational rehabilitation (VR) office gain the skills
necessary to secure meaningful employment through the variety of services
we offer at BISM.
I am passionate about empowering individuals with disabilities—particularly
those who are blind—to develop the competencies needed to thrive in the
workforce. I enjoy connecting with employers to highlight the benefits of
hiring advocating for more inclsive workplace practicesAdditionally, I’m
always eaer to build new relationshipst support the growth of opportunities
within the blind community and foster collaboration in our field.
Currently, I am working to connect our students with as many blind
professionals as possible as they prepare for life after training. Some of
the fields they have expressed interest in include mental health, NOMC
instruction, teaching (TVI), vocational rehabilitation counseling, culinary
arts, animal care, and vending operations.
I am also actively seeking guest speakers for our monthly job readiness
seminars. These seminars are designed to build confidence and provide
students with hands-on experience in various job-readiness skills, as well
as opportunities to network.
If you know anyone wholastly ncan help facilitate these connections or
would be interested in collaborating with us, I would love to hear from you.
I look forward to adding you to my network!
Smiles,
Kariza Gomes Goncalves
