<div dir="ltr"><div>Hi Rob, <br></div><div><br></div><div>Sorry I didn't see this earlier, as I have been away from my computer for awhile. If you are using THC for pain management, I don't see any difference between that and other pain pills, some of which are more narcotic. Drug free workplace laws are pretty old, and were designed to keep recreational drugs from interfering with work performance, something that could be a real problem with jobs that involve operation of machinery. Of course, there was a political element to that whole issue too. <br></div><div><br></div><div>I suspect that since the U.S. government still outlaws marijuana, using THC may not be permitted in a federal or federally funded job. But some states have legalized it, so state and private sector jobs may be open. And I think medical marijuana is going to be regarded differently these days, given all the positive publicity it has received. <br></div><div><br></div><div>One respondent suggested you take up the issue with a prospective employer and see what they think. Good idea.
Honesty is the best policy. Do not try to "fake" your way through and then get caught, as you could get in trouble. APH is a good organization to ask. Richard Rueda, who I have copied on this, may know, since he works with APH. <br></div><div><br></div><div>You may get some turn downs, but I suspect you will get some acceptances too. Your task may be harder if the job involves operation of machinery. There are so many variables that I think it is impossible to predict what the result will be. Hopefully a good one. As you are a pioneer in this area, please let us know what happens as a result of your inquiries. It may be an issue our Employment Committee wants to take up in the future. I cannot believe you are the only blind person with this issue. <br></div><div><br></div><div>Best wishes, <br></div><div>Dick Davis<br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Thu, Jun 1, 2023 at 12:11 PM Rob Hudson via Job-Discussions <<a href="mailto:job-discussions@nfbnet.org">job-discussions@nfbnet.org</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex">I use those thc gummies for pain management. Broke my dang back a few years ago and it hasn't been really the same since. And I think it's a lot better than opiates. If I get a medical card stating that I use these, will employers accept that? I was looking at trying to apply at APH, and they state they are a drug free work place. And I wonder if a note from a doctor could help me out here.<br>
Thanks.<br>
