[Jobs] Real World verses the Make Believe one

Karen and others,
Let me make it clear that I am NOT the moderator. However, given that the moderator cautioned us a day or two ago about long threads that discourage employers who monitor this list, I would suggest that our focus here needs to be how we can do the best we can to get a job in the world as it exists. How we may wish to change the world is really not that relevant in this context and should probably be hashed out elsewhere, but that is the moderator's call. Learning what an employer is likely to expect and tailoring one's resume for that position is essential now. If an employer's values seem to conflict with yours as an applicant, you obviously have a right to not apply, but few jobs are ever perfect.

Grumpy Dave – well you can certainly have a world that is less dark and more friendly. I am actually quite interested in some of the work being done in the new science of happiness. You might look at some of the work being done at Berkeley at the Center for the greater good. There is also an institute doing happiness research at Stanford. I particularly like the work of the neuropsychologist Rick Hansen – hardwiring happiness, and Buddhas brain. Both excellent books. It is possible to choose happiness and to do exercises that support its growth.
