Hello Carole,
Welcome to our list. I work as a reporter at the Star-Telegram, a daily
newspaper in Fort Worth, Texas. I've covered everything from city government
to courts.
You can find me on Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ and Twitter.
My stories primarily appear in the Star-Telegram, although I have done some
freelancing. However, I don't have time for that right now because of my
full-time work.

Again, welcome and we are happy to answer your questions.

Subject: [Journalists] INTRODUCTION

Hello,

I just join the list, which was recommended to me by Nate Trela, journalist,
and Bryan Bashin from Lighthouse, thank you to both of them.

I'm a foreign correspondent from France and came in this country on
assignment in 1994. Lo and behold I'm still here, but by investigating a
story in 2007, I had an accident and lost one eye. From here repetitive
medical failures led me to relay only with a weak and damage eye . However I'm
not legally blind according to the US metrics, I am in France, though.

Back to the magazine for which I worked named VSD, a news weekly high
circulation magazine, meaning Friday (Vendredi) Saturday (Samedi), Sunday
(Dimanche). The reason why a primarily landed in San Francisco, it's because
I was advocating the futur of a new kind of journalism not yet emerging. In
1992 in France, I was the only mainstream journalist to be introduced to the
World Wide Web and strongly believed that it was going to change our craft.
I succeeded to convince my editor and publisher that something was
burgeoning and I proved it by producing several stories that they resold all
over Europe, that was enough for them. At the time sharing my vision of a
new digital press was a lost cause, and living on the moon was more
credible.

Although I wanted to show that digital press could be a reality, this is how
Global Reportage started https://globalreportage.wordpress.com
<https://globalreportage.wordpress.com/>. In its original shape it was a
full blown magazine with 8 different sections ranging from New Tech, current
affairs (international/local), to politics, fashion, entertainment...etc...I
built the interface myself while learning how to deal with graphic, low
speed internet, digital lay out..I never monetized the site, to me it was
pioneering new frontier in the field of communication. The day it was
rewarded best journalist site by Paris-Match it was totally unexpected.

I will be interested to connect with peer journalists from the Bay Area to
talk about our craft, read stories that some of you wrote, and start a
conversation about how to disseminate our work.
If some of you are willing to answer these 3 following questions, it will
help me understand what I'm facing now.

Who are publishing your stories?

Are you working more as free lancers or staff journalists?

Is there any sites where you showcase and ultimately sell your stories?

I wish everyone a great week end and I look forward to meet some of you in
real life or in cyberspace.

Cheers

Carole
