"A<BR>Tactile Guide to the Solar System" the first annual Vision<BR>Midwest
Conference welcomes you with diverse programming that<BR>offers a quality
conference education with the amenities of a<BR>vacation. Brought to you
by the new nonprofit 12 State, Inc.,<BR>the conference features an Assistive
Technology Training, three<BR>symposia including a Diabetes Symposium open to
visually impaired<BR>and non-visually impaired audiences, five VIP sports, and
over<BR>120 presentations by more than 80 expert presenters for
consumers<BR>& professionals.<BR>Conference Features - Friday, October
22<BR>Careers/Employment - Charles Young, President of the Hadley<BR>School for
the Blind nonprofit international distance education<BR>school, will discuss VIP
careers.<BR>Diabetes - Jerry Munden, VP Prodigy Diabetes Care, will
discuss<BR>current and upcoming products like the Prodigy Voice
talking<BR>glucose meter and the new fully audible insulin pump that
debuts<BR>around the time of the conference.<BR>Technology - William Bielawski,
Adaptive Technology Director at<BR>Chicago Lighthouse, will give four
presentations covering blind<BR>and low vision adaptive
technology.<BR>Transition to Adulthood - Clyde Brewer (BOSMA
Enterprises,<BR>Indiana) Susan Dalton (TransVision, Illinois) and Kevin
Hollinger<BR>(Summer Transition and Employment Program (STEP), Missouri)
panel<BR>presentation on transition to adulthood/work.<BR>Conference Features -
Saturday, October 23<BR>Braille - The Braille Symposium 2nd day features
Wisconsin<BR>Braille, Inc. sessions including "Make-a-Shape Book" for
blind<BR>parents of preschoolers & parents of blind
preschoolers.<BR>Exercise/Sports - Tracy Curley, CEO of Hawaii-based
Rousettus,<BR>will give a 90-minute presentations on Yoga using the
VIYM<BR>(Visually Impaired Yoga Mat)..<BR>Medical - Dr. David Gamm,
UW-Madison Assistant Professor of<BR>Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences and
researcher will discuss<BR>cutting-edge stem cell research and
treatments.<BR>Technology - Sharlyn Ayotte (Founder & Chief Strategy
Officer,<BR>T-Base Communications), Mark Richert (Director Public
Policy,<BR>American Foundation for the Blind) and Dr. Gregg
Vanderheiden<BR>(Director Trace R&D Center) panel presentation on
assistive<BR>technology policy.<BR>Conference Features - Sunday, October
24<BR>Exercise/Sports - American Printing House for the Blind
National<BR>Instructional Partnership with Dr. Lauren Lieberman
for<BR>consumers and professionals on Adaptive Physical Education
and<BR>Children with Visual Impairment.<BR>15K Race - Running Club @ UW-Madison
15K and 3x5 Relay Race with<BR>VIP accommodations including free entry for
guides.<BR>Retinitis Pigmentosa - Sunday features the one-day
Retinitis<BR>Pigmentosa symposium, presenters include Dr. Amol D
Kulkarni,<BR>Ophthalmology Resident, Department of Ophthalmology and
Visual<BR>Sciences, UW School of Medicine and Public Health.<BR>Technology -
Jane Charlton, Content Editor for Senior Site<BR>eLearning Center on Aging and
Visual Impairment, will discuss<BR>AFB's Senior
