Dear Friend:
Thank you for your interest in Louisiana Parents of Blind Children (LPOBC).
LPOBC is the state chapter of the National Organization of Parents of
Blind Children (NOPBC) and a division of the National Federation of the
Blind of Louisiana.
Our purpose is to form a statewide network of parents and teachers of
blind/visually impaired children to provide vital support, encouragement,
and information. Our goals are:
- To create a climate of opportunity for blind/visually impaired
children in home and society.
- To provide information and support to parents and teachers of
blind/visually impaired children.
- To facilitate the sharing of experience and concerns among parents and
teachers of blind/visually impaired children.
- To develop and expand resources available to parents and teachers of
blind/visually impaired children.
- To help parents and teachers of blind/visually impaired children gain
understanding and perspective through partnership and contact with
blind/visually impaired adults.
- To function as an integral part of the National Federation of the
Blind in its ongoing effort to eliminate discrimination and prejudice
against the blind and to achieve security, equality, and opportunity for
the blind.
If you have not filled out an LPOBC membership form, please do so now. You
can get a form at http://www.nfbla.org/pages/parents.html. Families and
professionals are welcome to join LPOBC, and no one will be turned away if
they are unable to pay the $5 annual membership fee. We just want to get
your correct contact information so that we can keep you updated. We keep
in touch with our members through our website,
http://www.nfbla.org/pages/parents.html, our Facebook page,
https://www.facebook.com/groups/356578505943/, and through periodic e-mails
to our member distribution. If you would prefer to be contacted by mail,
please let us know.
If you have already submitted an LPOBC membership form, please let me know
if you have not received the information you requested or if you are not
receiving *Future Reflections* magazine. These materials are all free from
the National Federation of the Blind (NFB).

Another thing I would encourage you to do is to join the blindkid
listserv. A listserv is an automatic mailing list server. Members make
up a discussion group on a particular topic (i.e., parenting a blind
child). When you join a listserv, you can write and receive messages from
other members of the group through e-mail. The purpose of the blindkid list
is twofold. First, the blindkid e-mail list is a sharing of information for
people interested in the welfare and development of blind children.
Secondly, it is a means of communication between the members and supporters
of the National Organization of Parents of Blind Children, to promote and
discuss the activities of the Division, such as the Braille Readers are
Leaders contest, Future Reflections, and the like. There will also be
occasional posts concerning issues of major importance to the blind as well
as announcements concerning activities of the National Organization of
Parents of Blind Children and The National Federation of the Blind. You
can subscribe to the list or change your existing subscription at
http://www.nfbnet.org/mailman/listinfo/blindkid.
LPOBC is here to help you, so please do not hesitate to call or write if
there is something we can do for you. We would love your input on what you
would like our organization to do in the future.
Sincerely,
Laura Bostick, President
Louisiana Parents of Blind Children
