Attention Louisiana parents and families of blind/visually impaired
infants, toddlers, and early elementary students!
The National Federation of the Blind of Louisiana (NFB-LA), Louisiana
Parents of Blind Children (LPOBC), and the Institute on Blindness at
Louisiana Tech University would like to invite you to a special family
retreat for parents and families of blind/visually impaired infants,
toddlers, and early elementary students. The retreat will be held
immediately prior to the NFBL State Convention in Shreveport, and families
are encouraged to stay for the convention. More information about the NFBL
State Convention can be found at http://www.nfbla.org/state-convention/.
The retreat will be limited to 10 families to encourage a small and
informal atmosphere. This will not be a series of lectures. It will be an
interactive opportunity to learn and share about what YOU need for YOUR
CHILD. We will learn about topics such as:
• Developmental milestones – how to meet them and what to do if your
child is not
• Assessments for young children
• Encouraging early movement and exploration
• Language and literacy, including braille
• Working with your child’s educational team
• Getting the services you need
• Resources and materials
• Toys and games
• Social skills and skills of daily living
• Getting your child on track for a successful and independent future
In order to participate, you must be able to attend the event in Shreveport
all day Friday, April 17. You are welcome to come for the family events on
Thursday evening and the NFBL State Convention Saturday morning through
Sunday at noon, but this is not required to participate in the family
retreat.
Please contact me no later than March 1, 2015 in order to reserve a spot
for your family. You can email me at parent at lcb-ruston.com or call me at
318-257-4554 to RSVP or if you have questions. Funding is available on a
case-by-case basis. To discuss funding, please contact Pam Allen at
800-234-4166.
We will be sending more information, including a detailed agenda to all
families who are selected to participate. We hope to see you at the
retreat!
Thanks!
