The NFBMA Parents Division met on Thursday, Sept. 8th. The meeting began at
6:05PM. Those in attendance included:
Stephanie Valdes
Hai Nguyen Ly
Youme Nguyen Ly
Helen Kiprono
Liz Lesperance
Jennifer Bose
Shalmarie Arroyo
We briefly introduced ourselves and our families.
Our Constitution has been ratified by the affiliate board. The next step is
to move forward with establishing and collecting dues. Liz will reach out
to Shara for her opinion on whether to collect dues for 2022 due to the
group's recent inception.
***Post-meeting update: Shara confirmed it would be best to collect dues
for 2022. Liz will secure more details to begin this process.
We discussed our presence at the walk on October 2nd. Jenn is part of the
committee planning the walk logistics. Stephanie will reach out to Shara
for further details and will CC the group.
We discussed holding a Q&A meeting with those interested in IEP's. We will
consider this idea further to ensure that presentations are relevant and
accurate. Stephanie mentioned it might be helpful to have a student
presenter to provide their perspective. Danalynn initiated this suggestion
for her daughter. We will look to Danalynn to confirm this type of meeting
meets her expectations.
Anyone who received funding to attend the national convention needs to
prepare and schedule a presentation at an upcoming NFBMA gathering.
Stephanie advised that early next year we can start the process of
developing a parents' rights bill in MA. Helen was very knowledgeable about
the process which passed successfully in NY.
The meeting adjourned at 7:03PM.
