Good afternoon everyone.

At our Christmas party, the Cambridge Chapter will host a yankee
swap/dirty santa/white elephant. Here's how it works.

If you want to participate, bring a gift valued at twenty dollars or
less. No gift should be worth more than twenty dollars. Bring your gift
either wrapped, or in a bag so that participants cannot see what it is.

To illustrate how the game works, let's use myself as an example. I have
drawn the number three. This means that I am the third person in line to
receive a gift and open the number three gift. The gift is a nice coffee
mug. Now I have a choice. I can either keep the nice coffee mug, or I
can steal Shara's box of cookies and give her the coffee mug instead. In
my case, I decide to steal Shara's cookies. Shirley goes after me. She
also wants the cookies. So Shirley, after drawing a Starbucks gift card
from the pile, steals the cookies and gives me the gift card. Now it's
Stephanie's turn. Stephanie drew number five, so she is the fifth to go
up front. Stephanie would like to steal the cookies, but unfortunately,
a gift only can be stolen twice. However, Stephanie gets something that
she likes and decides not to steal any gifts.

Don't worry. We will explain the rules several times. It is confusing at
first. Each person draws a number, then goes up to the front table.
After opening a gift, each person can decide to keep it or steal a gift
that someone else has, as long as it has not been stolen twice.

Note: This game has several variations. If I recall correctly, this is
how we played it last year, and I think it makes a lot of sense.
However, if I messed up one of the rules, because it is confusing, let
me know and we will review it. For now, this is what we're doing.

I hope that many of you participate in our Yankee Swap! It was so much
fun last year, and I can't wait to do it again.

See you at John Brewer's Tavern on Monday, December 11th at 6 PM.
