Hello Massachusetts Federationists,

We have legislative work to do!
First, let's talk about the Access Technology Affordability Act. It
has been introduced in the House (HR 3802) and the Senate (S 1467) In
the last congressional session 3 Massachusetts Representatives
co-sponsored  the bill. That was Rep. Trahan, Lori [D-MA-3], Rep.
Auchincloss, Jake [D-MA-4], andRep. Moulton, Seth [D-MA-6]. So far no
Massachusetts Representatives have co-sponsored  HR 3702 which is the
new bill for this congressional session. . Please contact your
representative and urge him/her to co-sponsor  this important piece of
legislation. Additionally, neither of our Senators have signed onto S
1467. Please contact both Senator Markey and Senator Warren and urge
them to co-sponsor the Access Technology Affordability Act of 2023 (S
1467)

Also, the Medical Device Nonvisual Accessibility Ac,( H.R. 1328) has
been introduced in the House, but not the Senate. Please contact your
representative about this bill as well. Do not contact the Senators
yet because it has not been introduced in the Senate yet. So far 2
Massachusetts Representatives have signed onto this bill. They are
Rep. Lynch and Stephen F. [D-MA-8] and Rep. Keating, William R.
[D-MA-9]. The rest of us need to urge our Representatives to
co-sponsor this bill as well.

When you call or email, you might say the following:

 "Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME], and I am a constituent of [SENATOR or
REPRESENTATIVE NAME]. I live in [CITY, STATE]. I would like to urge
[SENATOR or REPRESENTATIVE NAME] to cosponsor the Access Technology
Affordability Act [H.R. 3702/ S. 1467] and the Medical Device
Nonvisual Accessibility Act [H.R. 1328]. The Access Technology
Affordability Act would increase employment opportunities for blind
Americans who cannot afford the high cost of access technology by
creating a refundable tax credit in the amount of $2,000 to offset the
cost of this technology. The Medical Device Nonvisual Accessibility
Act authorizes the FDA to establish a minimum nonvisual access
standard for Class II and Class III medical devices with digital
displays so that blind people can operate them safely and
independently.
