The below research participant solicitation is being provided for
informational purposes only. The National Federation of the Blind has no
involvement in this research, but we believe that it may contribute to our
research mission.

Researchers at Northwestern University are recruiting participants for a
paid research study.

The purpose of this study is to understand how people who are blind or low
vision learn to use new software-based tools. This may include, but is not
limited to, learning to use document preparation tools (e.g., Microsoft
Office and Google Docs), communication software (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft
Teams, Slack), and more. We want to know about the learning materials (e.g.,
audio/video tutorials, written guides, online/in-person courses) or
strategies you use for learning software-based tools.

To be eligible, you must be blind or low vision, be age 18 or older, speak
English, be familiar with using macOS and VoiceOver screen reader, and live
in or near Boston, Massachusetts. Interested individuals will need to fill
out an online questionnaire to determine eligibility by following this link:

Eligible individuals will be invited to participate in an audio and
screen-recorded study. The study will take place in-person at a research lab
at the Northeastern University campus in Boston or at another public
location in the Boston area (e.g., a public library). We will ask you
questions about your current practices for learning to use software tools.
We will also ask you to participate in a series of activities on a computer
where you will use some learning materials (e.g., tutorials or user guides)
to become familiar with new software-based tasks. The session will last no
longer than 90 minutes. You will receive $60 cash for participating.
