[Massachusetts-NFB] Parent Devision April Notes

Here are the parent division notes. They are pasted below my name.

Parent Division April Notes:

 

Call to order:

The meeting was called to order Thursday April 10, at 6:05 P.M. The people
who were in attendance were Ellen Bartelt, Stephanie Valdes, John Wetzel,
youm Wen Ly, Hai Wen Ly, and Kobina Bonney. Stephanie presented the NFB
pledge.

 

Big Sister and Big Brother Program:

Stephanie discussed the big brother and big sister program. This is when
blind adults spend time mentoring blind kids. Members thought it was a great
idea. There was discussion about how in Illinois they have a similar
program. Hai will reach out to Debby Stein to find out more about their
program. This program will take time planning to get it started.

 

Parent Disability Bill:

The parent division supported a parent disability bill last year. The bill
is circling around again this year. Stephanie will reach out to the leaders
to see if there are any changes in the bill. If there are not any changes in
the bill, Stephanie will send a copy over to the state board.

 

BELL Program:

The BELL planning committee meets every second Sunday of the month at 6:00
P.M. This year's BELL program will be in the first two weeks of August. We
already have two students signed up for the program. Stephanie answered
questions about the program. There is a course this year that anyone helping
with BELL must pass before they can help with the program. If people have
questions about BELL, they should come to the meetings.

 

Elections:

Stephanie will send an email out to the list servs to see if anyone is
interested in being the parent division secretary/treasurer. The parent
division will hold an election at their May meeting for this position.

 

Adjournment:

The meeting ended at 7:03P.M.
