Treasurer’s Report

Mika Presented the Treasurer’s Report.
Dues were due for 2025. Members could pay using PayPal on the NFBMA website, under Chapters and Divisions, and Cambridge Chapter. Dues would be $10. When making the payment, members were reminded to put a Memo indicating the payment was for Cambridge Chapter Dues.
Dues could also be paid using Zelle, using address treasurer at nfbma.org with a memo indicating Cambridge Chapter Dues.
The Chapter holiday party was in December, and entrées and soft drinks were covered by the Chapter. The event cost approximately $800.
Walk donations have continued to come in. As of the last report, we had raised $7,335.
The checking account balance was $2,945.79 as of January 13. Some of this would be moved to the state account.
Kobena moved acceptance of the Treasurer’s Report; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
RayBan Metta Presentation

Jessica from the RayBan store in Harvard Square presented the Meta Smart Glasses. She emphasized that these are not medical glasses, but they were aware that they were helpful for visual hands-free assistance.
Following this overview, members had the opportunity to see and try on the various styles and explore the AI features.
Updates and Upcoming Events

Mika presented several announcements.
Members attending the upcoming Washington Seminar should have booked rooms and let Shara and Kyra know they were attending. If they had not already done so, members were encouraged to do this immediately.
Registration for the State Convention was available. The cost online was $100, which included all meals. Room reservations were also open at the Sheraton Springfield, emails were sent out to the list with the phone number to book. We were exploring transportation options from the Boston area, which could include renting a van or bus. Several members expressed their interest in this transportation. There would likely be a fee to ride.
In order to run for a position on the board or vote, dues must be paid. Members interested in running should let Shara know.
Students interested in attending the state convention should reach out to Shara for a hotel room.
Members with transportation questions aside from the organized transportation should contact Mika.
Tom Page from Kansas was announced as our National Rep.

Affiliate Secretary and Cambridge Chapter Secretary: National Federation of the Blind of Massachusetts

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
