Given this is a global issue for guide dog teams and puppy raisers, everyone across the GEB community is welcome to join us. Please feel free to forward this announcement to folks who may not be on this email list. Below are Zoom details and additional info. Thanks, Pat & Hogan

Greetings Guiding Eyes Family,

We are pleased to reach out with information on the upcoming Grad Council quarterly call which will take place on Sunday, January 26, at 7 PM Eastern Time. The forum is titled: Myths and Misconceptions: Navigating a World with Fake Service Animals. All are welcome to join for what promises to be an informative discussion.

The forum will be organized as an interactive session to hear about each other’s thoughts, consider next steps, and discuss potential action items. We are pleased to share that members of the Guiding Eyes training staff, puppy program, and Client Experience Team will be joining the discussion. We will also hear from a legal expert on guide dog access.

The significant increase in the number of pets as imposter service animals is creating issues for guide dog teams and other service animal partnerships. While legitimate service animals fulfill an essential purpose for their handlers, fake service animals are muddling public access considerations and impacting rights across the guide dog community. This includes public perceptions, business policies, and safety concerns for both guide dog teams and the public.

Panelists:

Jolene Hollister, Guide Dog Mobility Instructor and Manager of Running Guides, GEB
Gary C. Norman, Health Law Professor and GEB Graduate
Madeline Bruggeman, Regional Puppy Instructor, Richmond and NoVa, GEB, and previous service animal trainer
Melissa Carney, Community Outreach and Graduate Support Manager, GEB

Forum panelists will discuss this ever-growing problem and answer questions from the audience. We will alternate between questions asked during the call and those that were submitted ahead of time. Please email any questions you have before the call to us at gebgradcouncil at gmail.com<mailto:gebgradcouncil at gmail.com>.

Zoom details and call-in options are below.

We’re looking forward to chatting with you soon!
