Paid User Study Opportunity with Perkins Access for High School Students
Dear Carroll Center for the Blind Community,
The Concord Consortium and Perkins Access Consulting at Perkins School for the Blind are looking for high school students to participate in a National Science Foundation-funded research project called Exploring Data by Voice (https://concord.org/data-by-voice <https://eml-pusa01.app.blackbaud.net/intv2/j/9EAB61CC-2D86-4826-9A04-EA2EC864372B/r/9EAB61CC-2D86-4826-9A04-EA2EC864372B_5d20f78a-4402-4ee5-ad41-c436a02bf339/l/CDBF8673-B096-47DC-ABC2-2F9C99C06164/c> ). You’ll have the opportunity to pilot test an exciting new AI tool called DAVAI (Data Analysis through Voice and Artificial Intelligence) that works within graphing software in a web browser. You’ll ask DAVAI questions about datasets by typing or speaking and share your feedback with researchers.
In-person user testing will take place in the afternoon (after-school hours) from June 10-13, 2025, at Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA, or at the Concord Consortium in Concord, MA. You’ll be compensated with a $75 Amazon gift card for a 60-90 minute testing session. You’ll need to bring your own laptop computer with a screen reader or magnifier to the session.
If you’re interested in participating, please answer the following questions:
1. What is your current high school grade level?
2. Which screen reader or magnification software do you use?
3. Have you worked with spreadsheets? Please briefly describe your experience.
4. Are you familiar with scatterplots or dot plots?
5. Do you have experience with graphing data?
Please reply to tanja.milojevic@perkins.org <mailto:tanja.milojevic at perkins.org> with your responses by May 20, or if you would like to learn more about this study. We look forward to hearing from you.
