> Sunday, May 18, 2025
>

> Blind Birders Bird-a-Thon
>
> This coming Sunday, May 18, will be the first ever event created by and for people who are blind or have low vision to get outdoors and start to learn or continue with birding. This historic event will be covered by NPR and WGBH! Come make history with us! Just because we cannot see, or see well, does not mean we cannot bird. To the contrary, we can be expert birders by listening to their songs and learning to identify who just sang. Birding is a wonderful avocation that gets us outdoors, requires us to be present in the moment, connects us with others who enjoy this pastime, stimulates curiosity about birds and their habitats, and just plain gets us moving.
>
> You can bird on your own, with family or friends, or join one of the organized groups (for those who live in Massachusetts).
>
> Volunteers Needed: Whether you're new to birding or a long-time birding enthusiast, please simply come meet us at one of the designated locations and times. Your support is needed and appreciated! You'll be paired with low vision and blind participants to enjoy the birding experience.
>
> To help anyone who wants to start birding or improve their bird identification skills, we have organized four groups that will be led by wonderful expert birders.
>
> Walks will be a minimum of two hours, after which it will be at the discretion of the leaders and groups as to whether to continue birding.
>
> Join these Birding Groups in Massachusetts:
> Expert-led group walks will be held at these bird-rich locations. Walks will be a minimum of two hours, so arrive early and dress for the outdoors!
